2007-2008 The DEA distinguishes Governance from Staff. Governance are the DEA's elected leaders: President, Vice-president, Executive Board members, and Association Representatives - the people who make decisions about the future of the DEA. The President is paid to work full-time for the DEA; the others volunteer their time.
Staff are hired by the Executive Board, and are not elected. They are employees of the DEA, and carry out the decisions made by governance.

Brian Ferguson, a librarian at South Davis Junior High, represents the members of DEA on the Utah Education Association Board of Directors. The President, Vice-President and UEA Board member also serve as an ex-officio members of the DEA Executive Board. Executive Board
The DEA Executive Board meets twice monthly to direct the business of the DEA. Terms are two years (except in the case of an appointment to fill a vacancy), and members are limited to two consecutive terms. There are ten elected board members:
